After the title Need for Speed released last year (NFS: The Run), the public clearly about on the ability of the EA Black Box studio to produce a decent arcade racing game. Following misfires Need for Speed: Undercover and The Run, it seems that Black Box has permanently lost the rights to the NFS series, Electronic Arts at the British calling again from Criterion Games brings things to a normal path. Thus, after a very successful remake of the classic Hot Pursuit, Criterion returns in 2012 with a new vision on another very popular title in the series: NFS Most Wanted.
But, as we saw in 2010, Criterion does not just follow the old formulas NFS titles, always trying to innovate and add their own ingredients in the recipe Need for Speed. Of course, any new Most Wanted is no exception to this rule. But unlike Hot Pursuit, where changes to the 2010 version were matched perfectly, reiterating’s Most Wanted comes with some design decisions that will not please everyone.
Thus, although we have some of the new open environment game (the fictional town of Fairhaven), the current NFS Most Wanted has no storyline behind some spectacular, as was the case in the old Most Wanted of 2005. In fact, the new game from Criterion abandon the whole concept of the story, giving the player a single concrete goal: exceeding the 10 pilots Most Wanted list and reaching the top of the list.
But unlike other arcade racing games, NFS Most Wanted addresses a different formula progression. Everything is based on the concept of Speed Points. Each victory, each drift, every pursuit with police can bring a number of such points. When you’re overcome some terminals, you can cause drivers Most Wanted list. Although it seems simple in theory, practice killing us.
New Need for Speed Most Wanted is not perfect: the 2005 version fanatics will cry story and the ability to customize the appearance of hot rods and open game environment and new progression system will not please everyone. However, despite these drawbacks, the studio Criterion Games has done an arcade racer back quality that goal but should have another name.
