The next generation of consoles, expected in 2013

Although the start of the next generation of consoles will be given you in this year by Nintendo Wii U, most attention is already directed to the new game systems that Sony and Microsoft will release them. And even if the two giants still prefer to keep quiet about future PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720 (names still officially unconfirmed), becoming more sources confirms imminent launch of the new consoles next year.

One of them was Andrew Aye’s CV, lead engineer on the team at Infinity Ward (Call of Duty series authors), which list the company’s next project will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC (DirectX 11) and a series of platforms still unannounced. Since this year’s iteration of the series Call of Duty – Black Ops 2 – will be up to DirectX 11, and then we can easily assume that the future way, probably Modern Warfare 4, will be released on next generation Xbox console, more than likely that this API will be based on Microsoft. And as Call of Duty usually occurs in November each year, most likely next console will be already on the market in autumn 2013.

The same kind of conclusions can be drawn after the emergence of new job announcements coming from id Software’s veterans, the authors of a series of legends such as Doom or Quake, and also the new RAGE. Their announcement merely stated that future employees will work on a yet unannounced title (DOOM 4? Quake 5? RAGE 2?), that will be released on next generation consoles. Can we learn more in this year of QuakeCon convention, which will take place between 2 to 5 August 2012 in Dallas, Texas.

Moreover, interest in the casual market, as shown by Microsoft and Sony at this year’s event E3 indicates that both companies prepare their heavy artillery for the near future, there are indications that their internal studios already preparing titles for the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox.
