New trailer with four alternative endings for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

At nine years after Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King has completed the epic trilogy Lord of the Rings and won 11 Oscars, director Peter Jackson brings to the big screen another book by JRR Tolkien – The Hobbit. At week Tolkien – calendar week that contain 22nd September – Hobbit’s Day, was released a new trailer of the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in which we are given new characters, along with other familiar faces, of which the most notable is Gollum.

Interpreted again by Andy Serkis through performance capture technology, Gollum is found in the trailer while making a deal with the young Bilbo Baggins. In the story, Bilbo gets lost in the cave where Gollum lives, and the little monster agrees to show him the way out if hobbit will compete in a guessing game. If Baggins will lose, Gollum will devour him. The game starts when Bilbo asks aloud: What’s in your pocket? Gollum fails to guess and is obliged to show him the way out of the cave Hobbit. The answer is a golden ring that Bilbo had found in the cave – Ring of Power – and which later gave to his nephew, Frodo.

Gollum is not the only character from LOTR trilogy that we’ll review in The Hobbit. Ian McKellen returns in the role of Gandalf the Grey, friendly wizard who recruits Bilbo to join a group of 13 dwarves on a mission full of adventures. The new trailer also shows us Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in the roles of elves Galadriel and Elrond. Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom, is also seen.

The official website of the film also proposes four alternative endings for this new trailer: the first contract they sign with Bilbo, one with Gollum, which reveals his dual personality, one with a winning bet of Gandalf and Elrond last of which gives Bilbo’s sword “used as envelope opener”. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first of three films in the trilogy planned by Peter Jackson movie launches on December 14.
