Paul Verhoeven wants to make a movie about Jesus, the common man

Paul Verhoeven, the director of “Robocop“, “Total Recall” and “Basic Instinct”, wants to tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth. Dutchman also wanted to make a film about life in 2006 the most famous figures of Christianity – “Christ the Man”. That film would be evidence that Jesus was an ordinary man who was crucified because the large number of followers, whom he had raised, made him dangerous time for politicians. At that time, Verhoeven said he is reluctant to make the film in America for fear of Catholics virulent reactions.

His last film was the first “Black Book“, six years ago and since then Verhoeven was associated with three other projects, which has not materialized. “The Last Express” was the video game adaptation of the same name, “The Hidden Force” was a contemporary drama about the threat in Indonesia has islamism fundamentalist and “Eternal” was a fiction story.

According to Filmdeculte.com, Verhoeven decided to resume the story of Jesus of Nazareth, and the script will be written by Roger Avary. The scenario will be based on the book “Jesus of Nazareth”, written by Verhoeven as a historical documentary that lasted nearly two decades. So the idea is keep from 2006: Jesus from Dutch movie is more of a revolutionary and a politician than a miracle worker.

Dutch director does not believe, on the evidence that has discovered when he worked on the book, or that Jesus was born of a virgin descended over the Holy Spirit, or that he would be resurrected after death and ascended to heaven. In fact, Verhoeven sees plausible hypothesis that Jesus was born as a result of rape, because in those days the Roman soldiers used to rape women in conquered countries.
