The first edition of Golden Collar brought the most talented dogs from movies at Hotel Hyatt Regency Century from Los Angeles. The ceremonies held in the ornate style of Hollywood, the event had one of NCIS star Pauley Perrette and actress Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland) as presentors and has been broadcast online by the Hollywood Reporter.
As was expected, Uggie, Jack Russell Terrier from the silent movie The Artist was awarded with the prize for the Best dog in a movie. The cute little quadruped was nominated both for the play from The Artist as well as that from Water for Elephants, but the tricks were made in the company of Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo those who brought the grand prize. His owner and his coach, Omar von Muller, was present at the event to accept the award and in his speech said that Uggie is not just a great singer but also a wonderful family member.
Golden Collar Awards, created by Alan Siskind (dognewsdaily.com site employee), have among the guests and other stars of The Artist, as James Cromwell and Missi Pyle. I am delighted to be here because I owe my career to a pig, said Cromwell, who played the farmer in Babe.
Martin Scorsese, who wrote an editorial published by the Los Angeles Times, which has inspired a campaign to include Doberman Blackie in the race for the Golden Collar, appeared at the ceremony in a video. Although his efforts to incorporate the dog from Hugo succeeded, one of the jurors who decided the winners revealed that Blackie’s name was not added to the ballot.
