An unknown in women handball makes sensation at Olympics

Brazil women’s handball team is the big surprise in team sports at the Olympics. Less known in the sports world, Brazilian makes sensation. After three stages in which they won by a score of 24-23 in front of Croatia, 27-25 with Montenegro and 30-17 with UK, ranks first with six points and have secured qualification in the quarterfinals.

In the same group, Russia, Montenegro and Croatia, with two wins each, will complete the picture in this phase of the Olympic tournament. Angola and the United Kingdom no longer have any chance of qualification. In Group B the fight is much tighter for a spot in the quarterfinals. Are leading France and South Korea with five points, followed by Olympic and world champion Norway and Spain, with 3 points. Triple Olympic champion Denmark has not said the last word even with a single victory ranked fifth in the rankings. Sweden with three defeats can be considered eliminated.

In Group A of handball, the last two finalists at Beijing 2008, France (Olympic and world champion) and Iceland together with Sweden are leading the series. Argentina, Tunisia and the United Kingdom will battle for last place that guarantees the quarter. Group B is much disputed. Croatia, Spain, Denmark have two victories while Hungary has one victory and Serbia and South Korea are still a danger to the other teams.
