At the last game of the season Hertha remained without head coach. As is known, Markus Babbel was fired Sunday, the reason being “damage to the club by some inconsistent statements”. At Kiel, was the biggest surprise of knockout…
Hertha – Kaiserslautern 3-1 (1-0)
As developed the first few minutes it seemed the team from Betzenberg is determined to get an important victory. The hosts replied in turn with 2 or 3 clear ocassions. One of them was materialized by Ramos who has resumed from falling a ball from the center of the square for 1-0. After the break a beautiful combination between Bugera-Sahan-Nemec brought Shechter in goal position, the latter scoring from about 12 meters, for 1-1. It was the most beautiful phase of the game. The joy was of short-term for guests, Lasogga marking for Berlin eight minutes later, after a successful personal action for 2-1. FCK had opportunities to make the score draw, even more, but the host defense was always on post. Almost at the end of the game Ebert shot powerful setting the final score, 3-1.
Holstein Kiel – Mainz 2-0 (1-0)
The rule that the striker has nothing to do in his own penalty area received a new illustration. Came to help the defending at a corner, Ujah sent the ball into his own goal bringing the team from regional league in lead, 1-0. The hosts have passed rarely from the center of the field, but successfully. In minute 64, on a free kick the ball deflected by a defender and came to S. Muller and he scored for 2-0! A big surprise but the victory of the IV team was fully deserved.
