Top 10 Most Awesome Contemporary Black and White Movies

From time to time we like to go back to simple things, without 3D effects, without color, at images in black and white and beautiful stories. We thought not to go too far back in time, but to remain as well anchored now, so I selected some Black & White films, mostly made in XXI century.

10. The White Ribbon

When in your village begin to happen strange things, it might have to start asking questions about death. As the grim picture to be complete, to feel fear and excitement, the film is allowed to run in black and white. A black and white, with an ending that make you think, without music.

09. Control

Music legends tell their story in black and white. Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, chose to commit suicide at the age of 23, but leaving behind a music that continues to inspire new generations. A strange character, with a dance that others barely managed to distinguish it from an epileptic seizure, a unique voice, all turned Ian in 2007, in the character of the film Control.

08. Supernatural

Neither the contemporary series have resisted from the temptation to make a brief return in time to shoot in black and white. Dean and Sam put on work in a special episode, investigating crimes of Dracula, a werewolf and a mummy as a classic movie. Encouraged by their own father to launch into this adventure to find the creature that killed his mother many years ago, the brothers’ triggers hunt demons.

07. Les amants réguliers

Love breaks simply, at a walk, a hand holding, in a black and white frame. François and Lilie are living with passion their feelings for each other, in full riot student. But time passes, and Lily wants to go further. A very vivid evocation of a golden age of naiveté, when people thought they could change the world just coming out in the street.

06. Manhattan

A top with and about black and white films, is not a good top if Woody Allen isn’t included, even if we return more than 30 years ago. Manhattan seems to encompass all that is needed for a movie to enjoy it repeatedly. An island (Manhattan), looking for love, the air of a classic film Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.

05. Mary and Max

A typewriter, a sheet of paper and the willingness to share your life. So it took for Mary and Max to write about them and what their existence consists. For him things are gray, for she is something more colorful. Over twenty years, inspired by continuous correspondence with Max, Mary is now a psychologist and married the boy who was in love in childhood, Damien Popodopoulos.

04. Coffee and Cigarettes

A series of vignettes with one common denominator: coffee and cigarettes. A collection of sketches gathered around the communal habit of sitting on a cigarette and coffee. In different cities and different places, people who in many cases have nothing in common, are talk – smoking and tasting a coffee.

03. Sin City

A colorful dance in black and white world of Sin City from the side of Jessica Alba looks and sounds even better and better, right? Adapting collection of comic neo-noir brought in distribution and other big names besides the beautiful Jessica, actors like Bruce Willis or the late Brittany Murphy.

02. Persepolis

The film presents a childhood full of daring girls and Iranian intelligence during the Islamic Revolution. We meet the young of 9 years old, Marjane, when fundamentalists come to power, forcing women to cover their face and throwing thousands of people in prison. Next, we can watching the young fooling all “social guardians” and discover punk and bands like ABBA and Iron Maiden.

01. The Artist

The Artist is an original production that pays tribute to the exciting Golden Age of silent film. The story centers on a megastar of silent films, George Valentine, that decade with the advent of cinema mute because he refuses to adapt and use his voice. To get a taste of movies from the ’20s do not have to look for a film over the decades passed. The Artist is a film of XXI century that offers old times air, including a nice dance.
