Usually, a film nominated for Razzle Award for Worst Picture is luck if get the initial investment revenues. We consider it funny that many movies, such as Xanadu, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas or Gigli. But there are other cases, sadder, in which is very hard to laugh.
We speak here of those films that, although are Razzie nominees have earned substantial revenues. Whether it’s about a failed sequel of popular films and stories of reaching a segment easy to handle.
10. Jaws 3-D
The first movie that caught our attention is a classic. That is a remake of a classic. Or so we believe it. The shark picture and a simple title, so suggestive. Theoretically, it is not the worst movie of all time, and did not invest a huge budget in its achievement. Universal Pictures, after all, made a profit of $70 million after the movie, but only that we have been considered a classic underscores the reason I started this top.
Rocky was a very good movie, appreciated, winner of three Oscars, including Best Film. Why the need to do Rocky III, IV, V and VI (Rocky Balboa 2006 production), already saw that the second has been overlooked by critics? Maybe it was not just the self-nominated for Oscar Razzle won, but the third on, did not escape. If in Rocky IV was using a budget of 30 million and resulted in revenues of 10 times more, the ratio has declined enormously in Rocky V, which started with 42 and received 120 million dollars.
08. Rambo: First Blood Part II
For Sylvester Stallone would have to inaugurate a special category in the Awards Razzle, a second reason as Rambo. Like Rocky, after First Blood, a film not as spectacular as Banos (budget 14 million, grossed $ 125 million), followed several sequels, most Razzie nominations. Rambo: First Blood Part II, Razzle nominated in 1985, had a budget of 44 million dollars and grossed 300.
07. The Bodyguard
Here we have a certain cinematic typology: a mega-successful diva foot beating the ground that Hollywood wants. The diva was Whitney Houston, it was expected that revenues will be substantial (more than 16 times than the initial investment). We’re sure that most of you have seen, so you know the story of Whitney and Kevin Costner.
I must admit that I’m a big fan of Robert Redford. Even now, in the company of Ashton Kutcher. Indecent Proposal portrayed Redford at a time when that child was enough to divide the world into good people and bad people. With this film, for me, Robert Redford made me rethink at villain status. Earnings of the film amounted to 267 million dollars, seven times the original budget. It seems, after all, that love and sex sell better than how much critics can buy.
05. Godzilla
When I made the introduction at first I did not reference and remakes. We do not know if you saw the original Godzilla, Gojira on his original name, launched in 1954, the first film ever made about a monster in Japan. It was very well received by the public much more that came 20 years after the release of King Kong. Surprisingly (or not), the remakes have been too little appreciated. Financially speaking, was a success, considering that grossed 380 million dollars.
04. Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor did not miss Razzie nomination. Although romance raised many sighs and tears squeezed some consistency among young film whose initial budget was 140 million dollars (which explains the many special effects), has disappointed critics. This does not exclude the revenues of around 450 million dollars.
03. Crossroads
We can not even remotely compare to Britney Spears with Whitney Houston. At least not musically. Even I have given both at one time in depression and made wrong choices, Whitney Houston is a diva and will remain in history. May not know is that Britney is big fan of singer Rachel Marron from The Bodyguard and that in 2002 he starred in a film budget of $ 12 million, which was nominated at Razzie.
02. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
We get to Twilight failure. We know that we will upset here many fans of the film made after the novel by Stephenie Meyer, but we are not guilty that came in the last selection in this year’s Razzie in 9 categories (of which one earned it). Has started, with 68 million dollar road and received, to date, 700.
01. Rambo III
Rambo III presents us the former Special Forces soldier working to build a Buddhist temple in Thailand and occasionally participating in combat to make a nice profit. Rambo is visited by Colonel Trautman, who offered him the part with him in an operation to help the Afghan rebels against invading Soviet forces. John refuses, but is visited by officials soon to be announced that Trautman has been captured. Thus Rambo decides to go to Afghanistan to save his boss and as it turns out, nothing gets in the way.
