Top 10 Movies Inspired by Video Games

Although video games are an invaluable source for filmmakers imagined, although virtual worlds have to offer consistent and original material for the core spectacular film industry, has not yet appeared in the film that we stick cataleptic state of ecstasy. It is true that there have been few, and that some were grandmothers.

10. Mortal Kombat

Although this film does not excel in any plan, product quality is mediocre (costumes, scenery and special effects sad irrelevant), the fight scenes are non-inspired (miserably if we think that the game-source is just one of the standardized products of the genre), the plot is simplistic and stereotypical and so on, the list goes on, Mortal Kombat has something ambiguous and vague that it rehabilitates. Maybe Sub-Zero and Scorpion, characters that say nothing, but simply by their presence, bring all the flavor of the game on screen.

09. Doom

Doom, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, deserves all our attention for one scene, which seems downright amazing, and that is where John Grimm (Karl Urban) awakens from “fainting” is looking for weapons and game is on. The entire sequence is shot from a public player perspective, we see only the hands, everything through the eyes of the character, from the perspective of First Person Shooter.

08. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

This film is a perfect example of “warm” compromise that a director makes to not screw up hopelessly. Select the game, distribute the best actress to play the “passionate” Croft, adapts a linear story, remember the specifics of the game, starts the production. Knows that he can not bring the game to the big screen and does not want to risk. So far everything is predictable and understandable.

07. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Unlike the sequel, the first chapter is more balanced, less inclined to a certain feature to the detriment of others. Excessive action is counter-balanced the impression of adventure, and physical skills put Lara in the same pot with her intellectual skills (do not understand the story of a warrior scholar). In other words, the first Tomb Raider is much closer to game universe, in the sense that presents a multi-functional Lara Croft.

06. Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Who “skittish delighted” by brand games Capcom know that they opened vein is one that mainly put the emphasis not on the massacres of Doom or Quake, but the “killing” feeling of sinister, the macabre and the total “darkness”. Filmic franchise turned Resident Evil universe into a delirious horror action. Not necessarily a bad thing, just be about losing the essence of the game.

05. Max Payne

Some say full of pathos that the film broke the game, others, less, have a more soundly soft, as the film is a disaster and got “the feeling” that had. Reported to the game, Moore’s film noir lose intensity in an attempt to reconstruct the “imagery” black and white chiaroscuro. The game is pure action and spectacular well articulated with a cynical Max who sees in front of red than revenge.

04. Hitman

Here’s a movie with simple stakes. Not simplistic. Do not confuse the terms. The film is not stupid.  The film does not excel. But it’s a very faithful adaptation of the game, how fair it can, in any case. And here, as in Doom, we have a scene that makes all the money-tribute. It’s short but effective. Our killer is leaving a hotel room and, for some moments, the camera does not stand in front or rear standard, but-on, from the perspective of Third Person Shooter.

03. Resident Evil: Ground Zero

The plus of this movie is the order and narrative “wisdom”. Not that we would be surprised with great victories of originality – that’s just the prerogative of the game – but we have not teased narrative. A group of characters in a limited space-cloister. Not really had nowhere to escape Anderson’s guiding hand. And, moreover, has suspiring Milla Jovovich, which takes the role perfectly.

02. Resident Evil: Extinction

Why I ranked it on 2nd place? Why seems better than the first two “installment’s” of franchise? Hard to say. All three are about as successful. It’s more an impression. The movie is more consistent. If Milla is higher, more mature, more cluttered mentally more complex (so there can be in a movie). And if everything looks better. Especially with more style. It’s just an opinion.

01. Silent Hill

Here is perhaps the only film inspired by a game that managed to bring in theater the feeling that they sought (and found him!). Haunted town, foggy, abominations, parallel worlds, hells on earth, or with, sober and deliberate tempo non-ostentatious, his many brothers and homo sapiens with serious existential problems, we find almost all the ingredients in this film.
