American Hoggers Overview

Many Texans are plagued by a viscous and unrelenting beast known as the wild hog. These hogs prey on livestock, destroy property, and make it a living hell for hard working farmers trying to make a decent living. In order to rid themselves of this dangerous nuisance, farmers hire professional hoggers to come in and take care of them. This is where the Campbell family comes into play.

The Campbells, a hardened family of three Texans dedicated to using a variety of means to get rid of wild hogs, are lead by Jerry Campbell. Jerry’s two kids, dark haired beauty  Krystal Campbell (23yrs old), and relaxed son Robert Campbell (28yrs old) work along side Jerry as they work with farmers to get rid of the hogs.

So how exactly does the Campbell family fight this invasion of wild beasts?

First they ride around the property, either on horseback or in their heavily customized trucks, and scout it out. If they see a hog they will release their hunting dogs who are outfitted with GPS devices to go after the hogs. The dogs have to be incredibly careful when dealing with the hogs due to the fact that the hogs are viscous and will bite them. Once the dogs catch up to the hog they will surround it and take it down. When the hog is down that’s when the hoggers (Krystal, Jerry, and Robert) will locate the dogs via the GPS’s and then tie it up and put it on their trucks.

American Hoggers is an A&E show that was released earlier this year however it hasn’t had a very good reception. Despite being a unique show that features a dynamic family, viewers have given it a 3.8/10 score – placing it well below average.

After viewing the show myself I have to say I agree with the viewer score. All of the shows seem eerily similar and there are several times when the show felt very ‘staged’. On top of the fact that the father, Jerry, constantly wore the same shirt day after day seemed odd and rather annoying as well. Not sure if the shirt was meant to be something funny or what but it just seemed implausible.
