Hardcore Pawn is a highly rated reality show that premiered first on truTV back on August 16, 2010 to a record audience of 2 million viewers. Many were attracted to the style of show, the location, the dramatic people featured, and the no nonsense staff that operates the business.
The show is titled Hardcore Pawn for a few reasons so lets find out why!
1. Location – The store is located in the heart of Detroit. Not only is the surrounding area crime ridden and incredibly dangerouns, but the people nearby are often the people who visit the shop.
2. Customers – As stated above the store is located in a rough place. The people nearby often visit the store and can be incredibly unhappy when things don’t go their way. There are hired guards for a reason, however the owner, Les Gold, is not a person to be messed with. He will personally stand in front of his guards and confront an outraged customer who has stepped past the line. This high level drama makes the show incredibly interesting to watch because you never know what people will do next.
3. Staff/Owner – Les Gold first had his store on the infamous 8 Mile located in Detroit, Michigan before he moved his store to its current location. Him and his two kids are hard a nails and will be compassionate with their customers until their customers get out of line. Each one of the staff is well trained in handling difficult situations and they are also well protected; not only with guards but with protective weapons as well.
Despite the ‘hardcore’ aspects of the show, Les Gold and his two children try to be as kind to the customers as humanly possible. You will often see them being overly kind to some, bending in and loaning out more money or giving more money on a certain item. The show does an excellent job of highlighting both their stern and compassionate natures.
